Wednesday, November 26th, 2008Thanksgiving is a big deal in the North America. Traditionally, it’s a time to give thanks for the harvest and
express gratitude in general.
Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, at the end of the harvest season, is an annual American Federal holiday to express thanks for one’s material and spiritual possessions.
Most people celebrate by gathering at home with family or friends for a holiday feast. As immigrants living in a foreign land, we have learnt to respect and celebrate the traditions of the host country. Our children and grandchildren who have been born outside our motherland, Iran, grow up surrounded by these traditions and learn about them at school. In order to blend in with their friends and the community they encourage their parents to celebrate these festivals, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.
Googoosh is also planning to spend this day, which is a national holiday with her family; her son Kambiz, who lives close to her in Los Angeles and his wife and two children. Like most other family gatherings on this day it will be a time to spend quality time together and food is the main focus of the day. It will also be a time to be grateful for one’s achievements and reflect on those less fortunate around the world.
Happy Thanksgiving!
